Your email and the download

When you enter your email, your Symly download starts right here on the site. You agree that we may email you, from time to time, to ask for feedback about your workflow and to let you know about the occasional update. This is not a marketing list, and you can ask to be removed at any time by emailing symly@brandoniben.com. See our Privacy page for exactly what we collect and why.

The app, and this site, are provided as-is

Symly and this website (getsymly.app, getsymly.io, and mxf.media) are provided free, open source, and as-is and as-available, with no warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement, and no guarantee that Symly will be uninterrupted, error-free, or safe for your particular setup. You use it entirely at your own risk, and you are responsible for how you use it and for keeping your own backups of your media.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, you agree that Brandon Iben is not liable for any loss or damage of any kind, including lost, moved, or corrupted media, lost work, or downtime, arising from your use of Symly, its tools, or this site. Always test Symly on your own workflow and confirm it is appropriate and safe for your setup before relying on it in production.

What Symly does to your files

Symly is designed to be safe: it works by creating and repointing a single symlink, and it never copies or deletes your media. The one time media itself moves is a same-drive rename (instant, with no bytes copied) when you choose to adopt existing media into a project. Even so, you should confirm it behaves as expected with your own setup before relying on it.

Built with AI assistance

Symly was designed and built by Brandon Iben with AI assistance, including Anthropic’s Claude through Claude Code. The judgment and the final calls are his, and the engine is open source so you can read exactly what it does. As with any software that touches your media, test it on your own setup and confirm it behaves the way you expect before you rely on it in production.

Open source

Symly is open source, released under the Apache License 2.0. The Symly name, logo, and wordmark remain the property of Brandon Iben.
